I’m back in Canada yeah! It felt a long 8 hour flight this time, did not enjoy! Have had a full day of errands with mom which was great. Ended up at Greenwood Quiltery in Guelph of course and With the Grain for lunch, yum. Broke down and got some K Fassett shot cotton. Mom and I want to make heaps of hexagons at the cottage. I want to do a massive grandmother’s flower garden quilt and went in search of a bit of fabric to use. I suddenly thought it would look so rich and lovely in a mix of the stripes and solids…

I think it will be gorgeous. I’ll see how much I can get done at the cottage and will share when we get back at the end of August.

In the mean time I have a few projects I haven’t shared yet so I will try and do that over the next couple of days before we head up to Georgian Bay. One is a baby blanket that I’m doing with “Swoon” blocks. This is a block designed by Camille Roskelley. You can just get the pattern or better yet head over to Craftsy and purchase the “Pre-cuts Piecing Made Simple” course. It really is quite a good learning platform and whilst the other quilts she goes over are quite simple I did pick up a few tips like using the lines on the mat more for cutting and truing up half-square triangles with an easy method. The Swoon blocks come out very large so I am going to do 4 of them and then put them together for a baby quilt. I’m using this Cloud 9 organic fabric which I’ve had for awhile. It’s just too cute and luxurious for words and think it would have been perfect if Kate had only had a girl instead of Prince George. Anyways,I digress…here are the blocks I’ve done so far…

These blocks are a bit time consuming but considering they use 2 whole fat quarters up they are huge and go along way. You just need to pick 2 fabrics you like together. I chose to try and stay in the same colour family within each block. The others will be in blues and browns.

Mom got me on to this block. (Speaking of which, I will have to do a mom quilt post again because she’s been sewing up a storm and has some lovely tops to share.) This is her first Swoon block hanging on the wall in her sewing room. She wants to do three and hang them on the wall together. Gorgeous!…

Ok better help with cottage packing now!
Oh crap, mom just read post and noticed in my first Swoon block there is a mistake, top leftish where a half-square triangle is turned the wrong way so there isn’t a point. Grrrrrrr… It will have to wait until I go home, how will I manage! Maybe John can take it out and re-do it lol!!!!!
