Get Your Own Blog Mom!

No it’s not the new year yet but my mom keeps coming up with little blog ideas and I thought I would share some of her handy work for a change. She’s very funny though because I keep telling her she should have a blog of her own because she is really going nuts with the sewing lately. I think we have decided that she will make more regular contributions here as a guest blogger (her posts when she a visiting in the UK were well received). I was teasing her this morning to get her own blog but really I’m proud to share her craftiness.

There have been some interesting renovations going on in my parents house here in Cambridge. Now that the children seem to be moved out for good, look at what my room has become…

Of course her new sewing room is exceptionally neat and organised. There have been many pieces of furniture that have been taken from else where in the house and are now the loving home to a major fabric stash! She even got a professional ironing board for Christmas that will hopefully iron a fat quarter in one go. I’m really happy she has this space and I’m sure the projects will come fast and furious now. (Although, dad says she has been spending many hours already up in her “studio”.)

Mom is a knitter from way back and blames me for her recent foray into the world of quilting. Here are some of her Christmas crafty pressies for this year…

Also…

(These are like the ones I made for John’s parents for Christmas. She also did about 10 sets for my Grandparents for each season and holiday of the year!)

And last but not least…

I think she’s done an amazing job on these items and I don’t know where she gets the time. I’m looking forward to completing some new things in the New Year too, now that I will be just supply teaching again. Although, I think I will first have to re-tidy and organise my lovely sewing room before I can start, mom’s space puts mine to shame!

Merry Christmas

It feels very nice to be home at last for the holidays. I have had a touch of bronchitis though which did not make the plane ride very fun. Mom and John were at the airport to get me though and we made a traditional first stop on the way home!…

I was looking forward to a nice long break but I’ve been so busy so far with seeing friends and working some days in Canada. I even did the teacher’s strike yesterday!

But of course I’ve had time to see my little Lady Fia and Lord Isaac. Boy they have grown and Fia is talking amazingly…

We’ve even had time for a Starbucks date…

You have to go to a Chapters near you to see some of the nostalgic Fisher Price Toys. I almost bought this for myself but at $40 I thought twice…

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and that you’ve finished all your crafty gifts…because I haven’t yet, oops! I’ll write again in the new year.

Unfair or Love

It’s a good thing I’m filled with Christmas cheer and that I love my husband very much because I’m not known for settling for an inferior product. Ok, let me explain…John and I decided to get each other advent calendars this year because they all look so pretty here (and because my mom is too far away to fill my normal refillable Laura Secord one)…Not blaming mom in any way but I was secretly hoping that she might have given John some chocolates to John to fill up my calendar. Yes, I know I’m a big girl but look at this thing as you can tell from the post marks it’s travelled near and far to get to me at Christmas each year…

I decided to turn the boxes over anyways…

20121208-103838.jpg

I was absolutely fine with it until I saw the advent calendar John got me compared to the one I got him. In all fairness I did see the calendar I wanted at M&S and loved the old fashioned picture but I was horrified to see that the chocolates that emerged were the size of my pinkie finger…

Now this is the one I found for John…

Check out those gourmet chocolates! Like I said it’s a good thing he’s perfect or I’d be trading in a heart beat!!!

On a different note, I got the joy of Christmas decorating from helping friends Susie, Josie and Bruno to decorate their family tree last night. They are sooooo sweet and were full of Christmas spirit…

I’m looking forward to seeing them again on Sunday for the Harpenden carol concert.

Christmas Cheer

John and I had a wonderful day yesterday wandering around London to enjoy the Christmas spirit. We started by getting off the train at BlackFriars to go to the Christmas Market on the South Bank. We got a bit side tracked first though because from there you can quickly see the amazing Tate modern building in an old power station…

20121202-185948.jpg
Beside there is the Globe Theatre…

20121202-190105.jpg

20121202-190128.jpg
History collides as it does all over London because beside the Globe is the Millennium bridge…

20121202-190306.jpg
What a view to St. Paul’s…

20121202-190335.jpg
We walked to the middle of the bridge and took a look…

20121202-190410.jpg
On the way to the market we saw some interesting shopping areas and the home of James Bond (MI6)!…

20121202-190535.jpg

20121202-190555.jpg
Check out this neat skate park…

20121202-190635.jpg

Finally we found the market along the Thames to Big Ben. It was great. We had to have some mulled wine…

20121202-190843.jpg
Don’t you just love these teeny Christmas trees. John says that’s a pretty normal size for here, very cute…

20121202-190934.jpg
We should have got some classic roasted chestnuts too…

20121202-191025.jpg
It was a beautiful day and the views were amazing from this side of the river…

20121202-191130.jpg

20121202-191156.jpg

We had quite the walk as well because we then trotted through the horse guard parade area…

20121202-191334.jpg
Past the Canada building in Trafalgar Square…

20121202-191457.jpg
And to the shopping area of Covent Garden where we ate at this amazing vegetarian restaurant…

20121202-191646.jpg
It was crazy busy. You ate in the very small basement where ever you could get a seat and there were people lined up on the stairs to get in…

20121202-191737.jpg
It was sooooo worth the wait.

Afterwards we walked around the Covent Garden are and stumbled on some unique sights. A gospel choir singing in the cold…

20121202-192205.jpg
I have a video of them singing but can’t seem to work out how to add it to the blog yet. I’ll get John’s help.

At the actual Covent Garden covered shopping centre site there was another Christmas market…

20121202-192634.jpg

20121202-192658.jpg
Again a group playing music. It was magical.

The best was this huge advent calendar that will be opened everyday…

20121202-192743.jpg

It was a Christmas treat to walk around with John all day! I sure feel in the spirit now.
