Fabric Fun!

I do have a weakness for pretty fabric. The problem is I like everything! I wish I had a specific taste but alas no!

Mom and I like to go to Greenwood Quiltery in Guelph. I was a bit disappointed that they seem to have a lot of the same fabric for awhile now but it is a nice shop to visit and isn’t “country quilt” like so many other stores. You can always find something sweet and on the modern side. I don’t often buy kits of fabric but they had this material done in a new baby quilt that I had to get…

I also love this for a little boy…

The Easter Bunny also brought fabric from Kallisti Quilts in Waterloo. She has an online store and sometimes opens her house up for sales…

Very appropriate for gogo little red in London eh!

Now I have to get back to my sewing room and create!

Crochet Take 2!

Wednesday is always knitting night at the Needle Emporium but tonight I forced Julie to teach me to make a Granny Square as my last attempt on my own was such a disaster. She really pulled a face but I think she thought it would be a good laugh and it was…

It did get easier and I actually smiled…

Then I messed up again and again…

20120411-095942 PM.jpg
Between Julie’s lightening speed crochet help and my snail paced efforts I/we produced a practice square…

Julie said these are her favourite hooks so I got these…

Here is Lynn in the store…lots of yarn eh!…

And this is only one room!

Home Treats!

I’ve been having fun visiting friends and family. It’s also been fun to pick up a few things to bring back to the UK with me. If you remember my rant about chocolate chips, check out this mega bag…

Yeah my books came from Amazon too…

I love Mo Willems books and these are his two newest!!! They had me in stitches, especially Gerald and Piggie, they are the best! Hopefully the kids in the UK like them as much as the wee ones here.

Finished another block for my new log cabin block…

This is the one from the plane over.

Before I came home mom had picked up this yarn for me from Julie…

Lord Edgar will get something made out of this but I don’t know what yet. I liked the colour scheme and I think it’s a discontinued colour, either that or Julie just didn’t have any more so I wanted to make sure I had it just in case, not sure.

When I knew Nicola was having a boy I decided I wanted to make this Debbie Bliss sweater…

This cute little pattern is from Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino 2. I got these gorgeous colours (I think!)…

Lord Edgar

I’m still getting some time to knit on “holiday” at home. I’m starting on the soon to be Lord Edgar’s first cardi. His mum is English so I thought this little number from a Sirdar booklet would be ideal. The pattern is called “Little Guards at Buckingham Palace”. Take special note of the buttons…he is being born in the year of the Diamond Jubilee after all…

This afternoon I finished the back…

I’m doing the 6-12 mth size for the fall but of course made it longer because he will have tall genes!

Pea in a Pod

FINALLY! I get to be a pea. I flew home for Easter and as I know John has a million upgrades for Air Canada I really wanted to go business class. If you haven’t seen the new business class seats, they are angled sideways in the plane and you have your own “pod” where you can lie completely flat. We joke that it’s like being a pea in a pod. I got the upgrade and didn’t feel guilty taking the points from him at all because I should get some benefit out of all his traveling for work right!!!???

So let me give final proof for traveling with knitting…it’s totally fine!!!! I have been traveling a lot for years and the only time I have ever been stopped for my knitting is when the lady at security says ooooo nice knitting. (Actually, I did get a pair of scissors taken last time I flew out of Heathrow because I forgot to take them out. He only took them because the blades were just slightly longer than the length of his security tag, if they’d been shorter I could have kept the scissors.) I even bring my metal addis. I know some people think bringing wooden needles is a better option but it doesn’t matter. So bring your knitting away with you and don’t be nervous…see…

Look, I’m laying flat with my knitting and watching movies…

20120406-091948.jpg

It is so nice to be back, everything feels big and open! To help with the jetlag we made sure to go to Wednesday night knitting at the Needle Emporium. We have been doing this for years now and I was looking forward to seeing the ladies. I missed seeing lovely Lynn (she’s almost done her Gnarled Oak), kind Maggie, and funny Janice with a million grandsons! Of course I got to see Julie too which was very nice and I’ll see them all next week too. I’ll try to remember to take some pictures of the store too. I did get one out the front though, it’s in a lovely stone house in Ancaster…

2 Finds!

I had completely forgotten that I had knit a version of the Mondo Cable Cardi…

20120402-181052.jpg

I fond my version a few days ago and got to work to finish…

20120402-181139.jpg
I knit it in Berroco’s Jasper and as you can see I did a short sleeved version and made it quite a bit longer to go with wearing tights. (Truth be told I got a bit lazy and opted for short sleeves, although I do love a good short sleeve sweater every now and then!) I didn’t quite like the left and right front border the way they were, not sure why because they did lay nice and flat. I think it was having the cable so close to the edge. Sooooo, before we moved to the UK I had decided to put a button band on and that’s where it got left, until a few days ago…I did the band…

20120402-181809.jpg

I finished putting on the buttons today and went outside with John to take some pictures. (Our last day together as I get to go back to Canada for Easter, yeah!)…

20120402-182145.jpg

Then we decided to take a pic at the cool front door to the main house and this is when we found the 2nd find…

20120402-183137.jpg
Yes that is a glass milk bottle that had been delivered by the milk man! John knew it still happened but was surprised by the glass bottles. How lovely!
